Lucknow
School Teacher Leaves a Legacy
Helen
Louise Thompson was a much loved school teacher and faithful member
of the United Church in the small town of Lucknow, Ontario.
When she died she left a substantial bequest to House of Friendship
in her will. Miss Thompson had been a long time supporter of
our work during her lifetime.
Through
discussions with her family members, some of whom reside in
Kitchener, it was agreed to recognize her significant donation by
naming the house on our property at 807 Guelph Street in Kitchener
the Helen Louise Thompson House in her memory. This house accommodates
our Live & Learn Program that works with low-income women and
their pre-school children.
The
family felt Helen, who was known for her love of children, would be
pleased to have her name associated with this program.
Her
bequest was placed in our Friendship Fund and will support the work
of our Live & Learn and other outreach programs in perpetuity.

Niece
Janet Mayhew & Executive Director Deborah Schlichter display
plaque during dedication of Helen
Louise Thompson House on June 3, 2000.
